Aikido offers physical, mental, and social benefits for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by using harmonious, circular movements rather than aggressive force.
Among the benefits are:
Improved Motor Skills and Coordination
• Motor planning: Helps children learn body positioning and execute sequential physical movements.
• Balance and muscle tone: Enhances sensory awareness, integration, and physical coordination through circular motions.
• Reduced fear of movement: Encourages children to try new motor tasks in a safe environment.
Sensory Regulation and Mindfulness
• Managing sensory overload: Teaches children how to stay calm and grounded during chaotic or loud environments.
• Harmonious response: Translates physical pressure into fluid, collaborative movement rather than a fight-or-flight crisis.
Social and Behavioral Growth
• Better social interaction: Promotes engagement with peers and reduces the severity of social-communication deficits.
• Impulse and aggression control: Encourages self-discipline and significantly lowers aggressive behaviors.
• Following instructions: Trains children to listen and follow structured sequences of commands.
Confidence and Self-Esteem
• Sense of accomplishment: Boosts self-confidence as children master new techniques and find they can accomplish difficult tasks.
• Inclusivity: Fosters a sense of belonging and community acceptance that counteracts feelings of isolation.
Private, secure and convenient. Please consult the respective schools for your Aikido enrollment.
